Commercials about nothing
Have you seen those kooky Microsoft ads with Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates trying to act normal? Well, you won’t anymore. Because apparently instead of getting people totally jazzed about resisting the temptation of a Macintosh, the spots just made people feel a weird, growing resentment toward Seinfeld and Gates.
The first ad was odd enough, with Jerry and Bill running into each other in a shoe store and then strolling through a bland, middle American shopping mall because, Ha! The mega-rich! They're just like us! Those two are so nutty! (We’re thinking they were angling for a sitcom out of all of this, or at least a buddy cop movie.)
But the follow-up, featuring Jerry and Bill actually moving in with a family to see how the normals live, was just… creepy. The Mega-rich! They just want to understand us! Through close study and experimentation!
Also, the “ad” was four minutes long. That’s longer than most commercial breaks. Even for a web video, that’s opus-length. But the real problem is, watching those commercials, did anyone realize they were trying to sell computers?
It's even more complicated
And here’s more bad news about things getting canceled: Denise Richards’ train wreck of a reality show, “Denise Richards: It’s Complicated,” is not getting shit-canned, despite previous reports to the contrary. Richards told Us Weekly, “We start filming in a few months.”
And despite all the flak she took for featuring her 2-year-old and 4-year-old daughters on the show, she insists they were totally fine with it. “They were just happy momma was home working,” Richards said. Right. Because nothing troubles a 4-year-old more than mom having too much free time on her hands.
And besides, Denise is being a very responsible parent by making sure little Sam and Lola have plenty of reference material for when they start writing their tell-alls 30 years from now.
Learning from the best
Those lovable kings of all things Disney, the Jonas Brothers, were just giddy over meeting Britney Spears at the MTV Video Music Awards. Joe Jonas (the… middle one? We think?) even made this embarrassing admission: “Her debut album was the first one I bought.” You don’t say.
And now the boys are apparently keen to work with the working mom. “A duet with Britney one day would be amazing,” Kevin Jonas told Reveal magazine. (Kevin’s the.… Never mind, you don’t really need to be able to tell them apart.)
